Carnet

About the project

CARNET is Croatia’s public institution for ICT in education, running services like the e-Dnevnik digital gradebook used by more than 1,300 schools, CARNET ID account management, and network security tools, alongside partnerships with ten government ministries and agencies. The rebuild needed to make more than 70 of CARNET’s services findable and understandable to very different audiences: students, teachers, school administrators, and government partners.

The challenge

CARNET’s website involved the largest number of collaborators, editors, and administrators Neuralab had worked with on a single project, more than any prior case. Aligning that many stakeholders on structure and content, many of whom hadn’t worked together on a website before, was as much the challenge as the build itself.

Accordion elements

With this method, we’ve streamlined the publishing process for CARNET while also simplifying navigation and content consumption for users. The accordion can house downloadable documents, project cards, blog post cards, newsletters, images, videos, and more. Everything is customizable and can be tailored to meet specific client requirements.

A11Y – accessibility

Throughout the website development phase, accessibility emerged as a crucial component. CARNET continuously ensures accessibility for all users, with a special emphasis on easier access to public services and information for individuals with disabilities. We embedded features like dyslexia-friendly letter rendering, “high contrast mode” for the visually impaired, and adjustable font size.

Content is a large part of accessibility, so our WordPress education focused particularly on image optimization, ALT tags, and ensuring that the text is semantically structured with correct headings to facilitate screen reader functionality.

Design approach

Each of CARNET’s service categories, computer security, communication tools, internet services, education support, is color-coded consistently across the site, so a visitor browsing services can tell which category they’re in without reading the page title. The same interface elements, buttons, cards, and layouts, work the same way across devices.
