Nominis podcast – episode 067: Open source VS custom webshop
We decided to give you a slightly different format of Nominis, with two guests instead of two hosts. The topic discussed was which platform to choose when starting the development or redesign of a webshop. We invited representatives from two, figuratively speaking, opposing camps for this occasion – our own Krešimir Končić as a representative of open-source platforms and Ernest Antolović from Shipshape agency as a representative of custom solutions.
In the new episode of Nominis podcast which we are producing in partnership with the Association of eCommerce Croatia, Ernest shared insights about Shipshape‘s journey and how they’ve created their own solution based on Symphony CMS due to client needs. Krešimir highlighted how Neuralab has been working on complete web solutions for more than 15 years and how we initially started with custom solutions, but now predominantly work on WordPress and WooCommerce framework.
Open-source tools are actually frameworks for creating custom web solutions for us. When we deliver such a solution to a client, the entire UX, CX, or UI is always custom-made, specifically tailored to that client.
The discussion covered various aspects of webshop development, including the reputation of WordPress, the cost of custom solutions versus open-source ones, and the importance of proper communication between clients and developers. Both guests provided insights into the advantages and disadvantages of custom solutions and open-source platforms, emphasizing the need for a tailored approach to meet clients’ specific requirements. They also discussed common mistakes in webshop development and the importance of continuous improvement and omnichannel strategies for success in the eCommerce industry.
