Nominis podcast – episode 077: Importance of mental health in business
In Nominis episode 077 we discuss the intricate balance of mental health and business success while exploring therapeutic insights and the vital integration of nature.
In the new episode of Nominis podcast which we are producing in partnership with the Association of eCommerce Croatia, we spoke to Eva Jurković, a master of psychology and owner of the brand Nectar of Life, and Anton Rudan, a herbal hunter, forest chef, and phytoaromatherapist. The theme of the episode was somewhat unusual and represented a thematic departure from what we usually deal with, but it actually permeates every pore of work and life as it relates to the importance of mental health for developing a successful business. Eva and Anton are life and business partners and in conversation with Marcel they demonstrated the importance of balancing personal and professional life based on their own example.
Discussing mental health issues, Eva emphasized that it is not an individual problem, but rather that the environment and the world we live in are “not normal” and not adapted to our biology. All this, she said, is a consequence of the fact that the world changes much faster than our physiological evolution can keep up with, and therefore people find themselves in an environment where they do not feel they belong, have a fear of other people’s opinions, and various social threats.
All these fears are completely normal and usual, especially in individualistic cultures, and we don’t have real answers for dealing with them because no one taught us these techniques through upbringing and education. This leads to numerous psychological difficulties to which people react in various ways. The best way to face one’s fears is self-discovery, learning specific psychological knowledge, and applying it. Mental hygiene is like dental hygiene and needs to be practiced daily
Anton added that movement is most important in life, that one needs to get moving, which usually requires a change of direction, refreshes the mind, and brings new things to learn. Change is often painful, he said, and it often costs us status, money, or nerves. He emphasized that happiness is the only true measure and that one should be autosuggestively honest and say how happy they are in life, how much good food they eat, how good their relationships are, how pleasant they are in relations with people, how successful they are, etc., and only when you consider all these relations then you have the factors that tell you what’s happening with you.
If those few factors are not aligned, then you don’t need a special indicator to show you where you really stand. The problem arises because we can lie to ourselves or we may have an illusion, delusion, madness, anger, and all other emotions that conceal the true state. The key is for people to become aware of their shortcomings, their emotions, and to direct their energy towards the change they need.
