In the new episode of Nominis podcast which we are producing in partnership with the Association of eCommerce Croatia, we spoke to Davor Bomeštar, founder of Fortis Agency and an entrepreneur specialized in B2B marketing, content marketing, SEO, and social networks for the last 16 years. The episode’s theme was ‘No Bullshit Guide to SEO’, discussing how to optimize websites for Google and the changes in this field over recent years, where unfortunately, there has been a lot of smoke and mirrors.

Marcel and Davor covered a range of topics, from his early days when forums were the leading communication channels, akin to ‘social media before social media’, to the present day when generative artificial intelligence finds application in all tools. Davor emphasized that even today, as a decade ago, content remains the most important in communication, and it is crucial to create relevant, top-quality content. According to him, what has changed is the quality of content and links, which is now significantly higher, stating that every published article should meet user needs and include interesting photos as a visual background.

A journalistic approach to content creation is what makes quality content today, and it is most important that the topic is well-researched, covering four areas – expertise, experience, authenticity, and trust. Manual work is important, as in many other industries, and original content is valued.

Additionally, thematic authority is especially sought after, and Google prefers to rank experts on a topic, particularly tracking those who write expert content and ranking it very high in results. Webshops should publish at least a few articles monthly on important aspects of interest to the consumer audience to create their own thematic authority.
